Founder of Cosmos Ndukwe Foundation, Dr Cosmos Ndukwe has charged women and mothers across Abia State to intensify efforts to tackle challenges that derogate gender equality. According to him, unless the girl child is saved from routine prostitution, early pregnancy, incessant abortion  and prevented from dropping out of school, gender equality will be mere lip service. 

 

Dr Ndukwe made this recommendation as women and mothers across the State gathered in their various hamlets, communities for their Annual August meeting. Over the years, August Meeting has dominated social circles as a veritable instrument used by women in plotting the peculiar development needs of communities. 

 

Dr Ndukwe, who had sponsored  a bill to promote gender equality; regretted that girls, mostly those in the rural areas  are daily abusing drugs, procuring abortion at will, being exposed to early pregnancy with its primary effect of dropping out of school in their numbers. According to Dr. Ndukwe, unless the women engage in conscious efforts to educate the girls and pay more attention to their welfare, the gains of gender equality may be lost. 

 

The Founder of Cosmos Ndukwe Foundation, promised the women that Cosmos Ndukwe Foundation will henceforth offer opportunities to more girls in their skill acquisition and scholarship programmes.
