FOUNDATION REGISTERS 47 ON DAY 1 OF THE 2018/2019 WAEC REGISTRATION EXERCISE
47 hopefuls of the 2018/2019 West African Examination Council’s Senior School Certificate Examination in Comprehensive Secondary School Okoko Item, Item Community High School, Akanu Item Community Secondary School and Umunnato Secondary School, all public secondary schools in Item Bende Local Government Area, Abia State have been screened and approved to have all exams fees paid in full for them. This number represents the successful ones out of a total of 84 that underwent the on the spot assessment conducted by members of the Education Board of Cosmos Ndukwe Foundation. In order to eliminate sharp practices associated with nomination of beneficiaries in the past, this new procedure has proven to guarantee that only the best and deserving have their exam fees paid in full. Each of the beneficiaries will receive the total sum of N20,100 being cost of WAEC exam fees for the session under review.
While commending the Foundation, principals of Community Secondary School Okoko Item Mrs Chukwu Ukanwa and her counterpart in Item High School Elder Udeala Isaac thanked the Foundation for the initiative which has given hope of writing school certificate exams May 2019 to the beneficiaries. Mrs Ukanwa observed that interventions such as the one by the Foundation are strategic given that most of the students in rural communities struggle with paucity of funds which accounts for the low turnout in registering for WAEC exams.
This year’s edition of the exercise, the 8th since 2011 when the first exercise was undertaken is targeting no fewer than 200 students in 14 public secondary schools in Item, Igbere, Alayi and Ugwueke/Ezeukwu. It is part of the Foundation’s resolve to boost the advancement of education particularly in select rural communities. The exercise continues Tuesday October 23, 2018.
